As is a widely known fact, the condition of women in India as well the rest of the world personifies pitiful. Not only is it the horrifying numbers that shamefully indicate our high rates of female feticide (Current Sex Ratio of India in 2015 is 943 Females/1000 Males.), but also the enormously ignored, dire need of attention towards all round development of girls in India. Leaving behind the educational and medical front, girls India lag far behind in receiving affection as well. Be it a husband, mother, father, brother or any blood relation, a girl is reprimanded right from birth, till death. Ashaa Foundation ideology is to make amend by tackling the issue from its very origin- beliefs and situation


Our aim is to level the employment field for disadvantaged women by providing bold livelihoods options thatenhance women’ economic status, dignity, and decision-making within their families.

By helping women acquire non-traditional livelihoods with dignity, we are ultimately developing a cadre o fempowered women who become agents of change. These women carry values of inclusion, mutual respect and equality, and democratise the spaces in which they live, whether it’s their family or community.

To ensure the transformation we work towards extends beyond the empowered women and their communities, we influence the government and other stakeholders to make non-traditional livelihood options with dignity universally accessible to women in India. We also advocate for the social concerns being considered in livelihood programmes for women. Through our work we contribute to achieving the goal of economic and social equality for women in India.


Ashaa Foundation’s mission is to provide poor women’s knowledge and skills so that they excel as professionals and entrepreneurs, and earn a “livelihood with dignity” in jobs and markets that had traditionally been closed to them. We believe that when women are socially and economically empowered, they become catalysts of change – not just in their own lives, but also in their families and communities. India’s male to female ratio is poor yet only about half of them are literate. Close to 1.5 lakh women become victims of various crimes annually, as per reported cases. Further, an estimated 5 crore women face mental and physical cruelty. Although, the legal marriageable age for a girl in India is 18 years, our girl child doesn’t have a say when she is going to be a woman!

Ironically enough, India has the distinction of having the world's largest number of professionally qualified women! India prides in having more women as doctors, surgeons, scientists and professors than the United States has.

In the workplace, we address constraints faced by women entrepreneurs. By providing networking opportunities, mentoring, access to information and credit, and business management training, we foster environments where women can advocate for improved policies. We work alongside local partners to provide women with vocational training to break into higher-paid employment sectors.
